Skin care is an important and easy part of the rejuvenation process.  Most female patients are used to applying makeup, moisturizers, and other lotions to their face, so by simply using the right cremes, dramatic improvements can be seen.

What is the best way to take care of your face? The basics are: don't smoke, avoid sun exposure, and use a gentle moisturizer.

But what if you are already doing these things?  That is where our aesthetician comes in!  She can evaluate your skin type and recommend appropriate skin cremes (often containing alpha-hydoxy acids) that can soften the lines and wrinkles that are causing you concern.

There is no charge to visit our aesthetician.

A few frequently asked questions:

Q: What is an aesthetician?
A: An aesthetician is a licensed skin care specialist.  The aesthetician evaluates your skin and then recommends & administers skin care treatments.  Sometimes this is as simple as recommending appropriate skin care regimen.  The aesthetician performs skin exfoliation treatments (ie "skin peels") such as alpha and beta hydroxy acid  peels, Vitamin C peels, POWER PEELS, and others.  The aesthetician also assists the surgeon in pre- and post-surgery skin care, patient makeup and camouflage in the early post-surgery period.

Q: What should I expect when I come in for a glycolic peel?
A: Glycolic peels are a series of skin treatments (typically 3 to 5, spaced two to three weeks apart) designed to improve bothersome facial skin wrinkles.  Typical areas of concern include the crow's feet around the eyes, mouth lines, and wrinkling of the cheeks, chin, browline, and forehead.

Prior to your first  glycolic peel, the aesthetician will have started you on a preparatory glycolic cream, lotion or gel.  The day of the peel, you are asked not to apply makeup prior to coming to our office.  You will be seated comfortably in our procedure room.  Based on your skin type, the aesthetician will have selected a peel strength. Always, she starts conservatively until we know exactly how YOUR skin will react to the peel solution.

The peel solution is applied to your face.  The solution can burn somewhat, so a fan cools the area.  After a few minutes, the aesthetician will spray a neutralizing solution, followed by the application of cold compresses.

The peel process typically takes about 15 to 20 minutes. After the peel, your face will be slightly red, but you will be able to return to work - that is why it's called a "lunchtime peel!"

After the peel, you can apply makeup the very next day.  You will also apply a restorative emollient cream for 3 to 7 days.

The results of the peel are quickly evident.  Sadly, these results are not permanent but can be maintained by returning periodically for maintenance peels.

Q: What is a Beta Peel?
A: A beta peel is a more gentle peel that the aesthetician may recommend to you initially if your skin is especially sensitive.  The peeling process is generally similar to glycolic acid peels. Downtime is minimal with this peel.
