COLLAGEN

Collagen is a natural occurring tissue substance that exists beneath the skin surface.  It is processed from cows ("bovine" collagen) or human donors ("dermolagen") and may be injected beneath the skin by your facial plastic surgeon to fill troublesome lines and wrinkles.

You will be comfortably positioned in our examination chair, and the collagen is injected beneath the skin wrinkles using an extremely small needle. Patients report minimal discomfort. The results are observable the same day, and typically last 8 to 12 weeks.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

If you have a question that is not answered here, you can contact Dr. Becker at beckermailbox@aol.com

Question: So, I want to try collagen. What do I do?
Answer: If you wish to use bovine collagen, a skin test must be administered to be sure that you are not allergic to the collagen (most people are not allergic). Then, you may return to our office at your leisure for your collagen injection. If you wish to use dermologen, a skin test is no longer required. You may simply schedule an appointment for an evaluation and a collagen injection.

Question: How long does it last?
Answer: Collagen effects typically last 8 to 12 weeks.

Question: How often should I get Collagen injections?
Answer: Some patients come in for collagen injections shortly before a special occasion. And, of course, others come in more frequently. It's up to you!

PATIENT INSTRUCTIONS AFTER COLLAGEN TREATMENT

There may be some mild discomfort that can be treated with Tylenol. There will be some temporary swelling that usually requires no treatment. However, if you wish, you can apply ice in the first 24 hours. There is usually no bruising. If you should develop a small bruise, it is temporary and should dissipate over a period of a few days.
